Living in constant turmoil, it was then I returned to my childhood friend – alcohol, and escaped into a dark world of inebriation. That was unfortunately the calm before a very disastrous storm.
My life became a bitter existence of hopelessness.
The atrocities and problems I encountered grew in epic proportions and on many occasions I nearly lost my life. I feared the future and was losing all hope for surviving the destruction that had caused such an enormous amount of uncertainty. The clouds above me grew dark, as lightning ripped across the skies.
I was blinded by its wrath and fury, destined to experience the pounding forces. And within an instant, it hit with a vengeance that strangled my very breath. My heart beat a rhythm of hatred and contempt, and made a permanent home in my soul. What would become of my life?
Something had to change…

Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. (Amen)
After reading this book, I wanted a simple way to sum everything up. The Bible verse above is my summary of this book. Author Gracee Mae experienced enough heartbreak and pain to last for three lifetimes. She was faced with inhuman quantities of disappointment, despair and depression.
She is, just a human being, as my friend Cedric would jokingly say, “Just another squirrel trying to get a nut.” And in that attempt to live a decent life, she was met with insurmountable obstacles…
That is, humanly insurmountable obstacles. She needed, and eventually found, a higher power to take her to her personal victory over the “demons” that besieged and plagued her life.
For me, what is most important is her voice, of courage, as she shares her journey, her pain, and the depths of her condition. In doing so, she offers others something to hope for, that no matter how bad your present situation may seem to be, from somewhere, each and every reader must surely reach the conclusion that if Grace could find her way back into the light, then surely if we just hang on for a little while longer, then we too can overcome our own personal demons.
In the end, this is a book about hope, about never ever giving up, no matter what. Never lose heart, look steadily at things that only you can see (your victory). Trust in things not seen…have faith. Grace brings this message to us, quite candidly. Are we ready to listen to her? If your answer is “YES”, then you must buy this book, which I highly recommend.
